Getting to and from Florence
Twenty minutes in and a twenty-five on the way up. These are the fast roads the locals use that your GPS doesn’t know about.
Drive like a local and quickly nip up and down to Florence with the routes we have prepared for you.
Routes:
To the Ponte Vecchio area and back
To Porta Romana and back
To Piazza Beccaria and back
Parking in Florence
There is a Limited Traffic Zone, (ZTL) meaning an area where cars are controlled with special permits. Your car rental won't have a permit for these areas - You will be tracked down through your car rental agency and it might take a while but fines will reach you back at home.
The simple workaround to the ZTL - is simply to park in a expensive car park. They will remove your number plate from the list. It’s totally worth it. Feel like a Florentine (With a parking permit) for a day.
Or park outside the zone and walk in.
Piazza Beccaria or Porta Romana have cheaper parking solutions.
Or rent a two wheel solution. The ZTL doesn’t apply to them.
To ‘Ponte Vecchio’ from Torre Di Sopra
Parking in Garage Santa Trinita near Santo Spirito and walking distance to centre of Florence. Feel like you live there and completely flaunt the ZTL warning signs. Make sure they remove your number plate from ‘the list.’
Pay attention to a key turning on the way down!
Most traffic will be going either left round the roundabout or straight for the motorway - you need to go right down a very thin road.
To Porta Romana from Torre Di Sopra
Down the back roads - And parking at Garage Oltrarno. Try and park as far down the long parking lot as you can, and walk out onto Piazza Tasso.
Great restaurants here, one of our recommended Ice Cream Spots and the groovy vintage bicycle place. (No ZTL. )
To piazza Beccaria
Easy parking for Santa Croce, The synagogue, Casa Buonarroti, Teatro della Pergola.
